Grading and assessment
Grading Policy: The 80/20 Rule and PWCS Grading Regulations
Mastery and Retakes
You have the opportunity to RESUBMIT or RETAKE almost any assignment or assessment to show your knowledge. It is MANDATORY to retake all SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS below a 70% . Before any retake, you must meet with your teacher for a remediation session before retaking an assessment to hopefully improve your mastery of a target.
Remediation
If you would like to retake any assessments, you must meet with your teacher to review the material at least once before retaking. After you have met with them for a remediation session, you can retake your assessment. Please talk with your teacher to set up a time for your remediation session and to schedule your retake.
- Summative – End of unit assessments, such as tests and projects, will be 80% of the final grade and will be marked with the standard A, B, C, D, F system.
- Formative – Practice work, such as handouts or quizzes, will be 20% of the final grade. These will be graded by (M) Mastery, (AM) Approaching Mastery, or (NM) Non Mastery. This corresponds to an A, C, and D, respectively, on the traditional grading scale.
